Most small businesses still hire IT by zip code

The provider down the street made sense when IT meant someone driving over with a screwdriver. Today the work that keeps a 10-person company running and safe happens inside Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, on the laptop itself, and in the backup copy of your data, and none of it cares which city the engineer sits in.

For US-based clients outside our drive radius, we deliver the same managed service entirely remotely. The endpoint stack does not care where the laptop is plugged in: onboarding, monitoring, patching, identity, and backup are identical whether your team works out of one office or is spread across the country.

What still matters when you hire remotely is who answers, during which hours, and what happens when nobody is awake. This page answers those three questions plainly, with the prices attached.

What we deliver remotely

Everything below is delivered without an on-site visit, the same way for a client in Salinas and a client three time zones away.

Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace administration

Tenant hardening you can verify: Conditional Access policies that block legacy sign-ins and enforce phishing-resistant MFA, hardware security keys for admin accounts, and Google Workspace set up as the identity provider with phishing-resistant MFA for Workspace shops. Licenses, mailboxes, shared drives, and offboarding handled by the engineer who knows your tenant.

Cybersecurity and managed detection and response

Managed detection and response on laptops and cloud accounts. When something real is found, we act directly, isolating the device or disabling the compromised account, instead of emailing you and waiting for a callback. Dark web monitoring for exposed credentials on Secure Growth and Compliance & Continuity; 24/7 SOC threat monitoring and response on Compliance & Continuity.

US-based help desk

You reach the owner, not an offshore tier-1 queue, 8am to 6pm Pacific, Monday through Friday. Remote sessions start with you on the phone and end when the call ends, so you watch everything we do on your screen.

Cloud backup for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace

Independent, point-in-time backup of Exchange Online mailboxes, SharePoint, and OneDrive, and of Gmail and Google Drive, held outside your tenant. Included on Secure Growth, Compliance & Continuity, and Tiny Team.

Device management that does not need an engineer in the room

A new Mac ships sealed from the store to the employee's door and configures itself on first boot through Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Manager); Windows laptops enroll through Microsoft 365. A lost or departing employee's laptop is locked or erased remotely. $15 per device per month.

The written deliverables

Managed clients receive a written policy suite (WISP, incident response plan, BC/DR plan, access control and acceptable use, retention and destruction, and an AI acceptable use policy) and an annual independent risk assessment arranged through a third-party assessor. Useful when a customer, insurer, or auditor asks what your IT provider actually does.

What stays on-site, and what we do instead when you are far away

The large majority of help desk issues are solved remotely. What is physical stays physical: a failed workstation, a network drop, a new-hire desk setup, an office move. Within Monterey County and surrounding areas we go on-site for that work.

For clients elsewhere in the United States, the hardware path is built so nothing needs an engineer in your building: laptops ship sealed to the person and set themselves up on first boot, and a departing employee's laptop is locked or erased remotely wherever it is. If your office needs a network rebuilt outside our on-site area, we say so in the assessment instead of selling it.

Hours, time zones, and what happens at 2am

Routine help desk runs 8am to 6pm Pacific, Monday through Friday. For a team on Eastern time that is 11am to 9pm; on Central time, 10am to 8pm; on Mountain time, 9am to 7pm. Routine requests filed overnight are picked up at the start of the next business day. We do not sell a 24/7 help desk, and we would rather you know that before you sign.

Monitoring keeps running around the clock, and on an actual or reasonably suspected critical incident you hear from the owner within 4 hours. Compliance & Continuity adds 24/7 SOC threat monitoring and response and includes after-hours support; on Core and Secure Growth, after-hours help is available on request.

What remote managed IT costs

Published prices, with the arithmetic shown. Every number here comes from our pricing page.

Remote managed IT, priced

Per user (5 users and up)
Core Managed IT $125, Secure Growth $175, Compliance & Continuity $250 per user per month
Teams of 1 to 4
Tiny Team Managed Security, $600 per month flat
Example: 10-person remote team on Secure Growth
10 × $175 = $1,750 per month; with device management on 10 laptops, 10 × $15 = $150 more, so $1,900 per month
Onboarding
$1,000 one-time for Tiny Team; $1,500 for 5 to 15 users on the Microsoft 365 default scope. Google Workspace and Apple fleet onboarding are scoped and quoted separately
Terms
12-month agreement standard; month-to-month at +15%
One-off remote work without a plan
$180 per hour, 30-minute minimum, billed in 15-minute increments after that

How a remote engagement starts

1. A 30-minute call with the owner

Free and no obligation. We look at how your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace tenant is set up, where your laptops stand, and what is and is not backed up.

2. A written quote

Using the prices on this page, with the tier and any device management spelled out. No call-center layer, no surprise line items.

3. Remote onboarding

Accounts, security policies, device enrollment, and backup, run remotely. One example: a five-person fully remote firm on Google Workspace and Macs, with staff in the US and India, was onboarded on Secure Growth in about two weeks.

Who you talk to

Ulises Paiz, the owner, directly. There is no tier-one layer, no offshore queue, and no script; you get the same person each time, so you never re-explain your setup. Ghosxt is built around a single engineer with DoD infrastructure experience who has managed IT for large-scale organizations and for small local businesses.

That is also the honest limit of a one-engineer firm: routine help desk runs business hours Pacific, after-hours help is available on request, and on an actual or reasonably suspected critical incident you hear from the owner within 4 hours.

Remote IT support: common questions

Can an IT company in California manage our IT if we're in another state?
Yes. For US-based clients outside our drive radius we deliver the same managed service entirely remotely: onboarding, monitoring, patching, identity, and backup are identical whether your team sits in one office or is spread across the country. On-site visits are for Monterey County and surrounding areas.
What can't you do remotely?
Anything physical: a failed workstation, a network drop, a new-hire desk setup, or an office move. Within Monterey County and surrounding areas we go on-site for that. Elsewhere, laptops ship sealed to the person and set themselves up on first boot, and a lost or departing employee's laptop is locked or erased remotely. If a job needs an engineer in your building and you are outside our on-site area, we say so up front.
What hours do you cover if we're on the East Coast?
Routine help desk runs 8am to 6pm Pacific, Monday through Friday, which is 11am to 9pm Eastern. Routine requests filed overnight are picked up at the start of the next business day. Monitoring keeps running around the clock, and on an actual or reasonably suspected critical incident you hear from the owner within 4 hours. Compliance & Continuity includes after-hours support and 24/7 SOC threat monitoring and response; on the other tiers, after-hours help is available on request.
Who actually answers when we call?
Ulises Paiz, the owner and the engineer who manages your environment. Support is US-based; there is no offshore tier-1 queue and no script.
How much does remote managed IT cost?
$125, $175, or $250 per user per month depending on tier, with a 5-user minimum on a 12-month agreement; teams of 1 to 4 pay $600 per month flat. Onboarding is $1,000 for Tiny Team and $1,500 for 5 to 15 users on the Microsoft 365 default scope; Google Workspace and Apple fleet onboarding are scoped and quoted separately. Month-to-month is available at +15%.
Can we hire you for a one-time remote fix without a contract?
Yes. Remote support for non-managed clients is $180 per hour with a 30-minute minimum, billed in 15-minute increments after that. Managed clients have business-hours help desk included in their plan.
Can you see our screens or files without us knowing?
No. Remote support sessions start with you on the call, using a short session code the engineer gives you, and they end when the call ends. You watch the whole thing.
Do you support Google Workspace, or only Microsoft 365?
Both. Microsoft 365 tenants get Conditional Access, phishing-resistant MFA, and device management through Microsoft 365. Google Workspace shops get Workspace set up as the identity provider with phishing-resistant MFA, Gmail and Drive backup, and Mac management through Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Manager). Onboarding for the Microsoft 365 default scope is priced on the pricing page; Google Workspace and Apple fleet onboarding are scoped and quoted separately.
Do we need to be a certain size?
No. Tiny Team covers 1 to 4 users at a flat $600 per month; the per-user tiers start at 5 users and run up through 50-plus employee operations.
